Analysis of another radio newscast

Image result for CBC news
From this news broadcast, it is obvious that the news is international news. We can recognise this from the accents used. All the presenters and people part of the broadcast have a Canadian accent, therefore this connotes that this must be news from Canada /within the US. The name of the radio channel is called CBC news, which is a common radio station reporting from the US.

The newscast starts off with the radio news channel’s short jingle which is about 3 seconds. It slowly fades out to allow the main anchor to introduce himself. The main anchor is a male, which brings out the stereotype that news anchors must be males. After he introduces himself, he introduces the lead headline; which is about Donald Trump, the new president of America. He says the long title of the lead story and gives a basic summary before passing onto a female anchor who knows more about the story; an expert. She gives more information about the issue with Trump and then a sound bite of the interview with Donald Trump in inserted.

The next story is about shootings in New York City, from Washington. This shows that CBC news broadcasts locally as well as nationally and internationally.

The next story is about Germany wanting to stop migration from Africa. The anchor passes on to an expert who knows more on this. After this, a Vox Pop of an interviewee is inserted from an outside broadcast.

All the anchors, presenters and interviewers used a formal and serious tone to present hard news and to show it’s importance. This helps us to identify their target audience, which would be adults, possibly both working and middle class because of their formality and presentation.

Lastly, the main anchor reminds the audience who he is – “Denis”. Over here, the pace is slow. The main anchor’s voice fades out and the jingle becomes louder. The jingle at the beginning is prolonged at the end.
