Conventions in sky radio newscast
The radio newscast starts off with a female anchor’s voice. No
theme music is used; it just starts off with her name, the location and then
straight to the headlines. She is the main anchor. The headlines starts off
with the lead story, this is where the most important story is carried out
first. In this newscast the lead story would be that the UN stops all convoys’
with Syria 70,000 people bombed by war planes. The main anchor says that People
all over the country are affected. They cross over to another person in the
newscast. A soundbite from an expert, Sonia Kush is inserted. This was outside
of the broadcast. She was selected as the expert because she if from the area
and knows how is it affecting the whole of the country.
The main anchor is talking very formally. This shows that the
newscast is broadcasted for adults and not people like children or teenagers.
Also she is talking very seriously and no music / background theme music was
inserted in. Throughout the whole
newscast, it was only3 women’s voices. 1 anchor, 1 expert and 1 short interview
with a Paralympian. The stories were not in depth and not in detail so this was
only headline news.
This newscast has a range of genres, politics, health and
sports, businesses. One of the headlines was of 8 men arrested in a Bastille attack.
This is news for local people as they were probably near the attack and would
want to feel safe. Another headline was of the NHS and smoking. Evidence read by the anchor shows that in
“1974 half of men smoked” less than 50%, and now there’s even more less men
suing it at a lower level. They are now using E-cigarettes as they say it helps
overcome their addiction for cigarettes. Penultimately the Queen congratulates the
Paralympians after their final games back from Rio. Kadeena Cox is the first British
woman Paralympian who won 4 medals in 32 years. The news broadcast was
interactive. They held a short interview with the Paralympian. She has recently
found out that she had multiple scoliosis for “2 years”. Lastly, and Tesco, Sainsbury’s,
ASDAs and Morrison’s found that they had a year on year rise.
The newscast started off with hard news but towards the end,
there were softer news stories.

What is hard news and soft news?
Hard
news:
It is a kind
of fast-paced news that normally appears on the front page of newspapers.
Stories that fall under hard news often address the audience with topics like
business, politics and international news.
Hard news
and soft news are considered the two major types of news stories available.
Recent news
and events that require immediate reporting are called hard news. Subject
matter that is usually considered hard news includes:
- Politics
- War
- Economics
- Crime
Soft
news
Features and
news that is considered background information or human-interest are thought of
as soft news.
Soft news usually includes topics like arts, entertainment
and lifestyle stories.
Soft-news lead-ins tend to be narrative or anecdotal in nature,
where they tell a story instead of stating important facts.
Soft
news has a journalistic style and genre that clears the difference between
information and entertainment.
The
difference:
The major difference between hard and soft news is the tone in
which the story is presented. Hard news normally includes more facts to explain
what happened, who the main people involved were and where and when everything
happened and why. Soft news stories can be presented in a variety of ways, but
they usually try to entertain or advise the reader in some way.
