KMFM starts off with the news theme jingle and starts promoting themselves on different social media platforms, such as their own website which is www.kentonline.co.uk.  This helps the target audience to recognise their radio news station. The main anchor starts off the newscast with a lead headline. The newscast starts off with harder news and then gradually goes onto softer news. It is 5 minutes long.
The first headline in the newscast is about Prince harry and his concern for his girlfriend’s safety.  He is from London therefore it makes it a local news headline. The headline is followed by a sound bite from Tina Brown, who is a magazine editor. She compliments his girlfriend and says that she shouldn’t be in danger. This creates an enigma code as the audience will want to find out the rest of the news story relating to Prince Harry and his girlfriend. This headline may also fall under the topic of gossip rather than news to inform, as people who are interested in The Royal Family and gossip may want more information on it. The enigma code persuades them to wait for the news story and carry on listening.
The next attention-grabbing headline is Local. It is about a man being accused of an attempted murder. It is local for London residents because it is in London, however it is not local as the radio station / newscast itself is coming from Kent.
After that, the next headline is on the American votes for their new president. A sound bite from an expert is inserted from an outside broadcast. He said that Hilary Clinton is in the lead and needs “about 260 more votes to win”. This is international news as it is in news from America. It is there to entertain and inform the target audience as the election in America is the biggest story in the world and pretty much everyone knows about it. This creates an enigma code as the audience will want to find out more about the issue.
Another local news headline is inserted. Marks and Spencer’s have closed 30 stores after showing a rising fall in profits. This is local news as it gives warning to people who go and shop in M&S and to see if their local stores are the ones being close or not.
An issue of poverty is raised. There is interaction from the audience as a phone call submitted, giving public opinion.
Tobelerone chocolate is becoming smaller in size because the ingredients are becoming more expensive. This is a major issue for chocolate fans, especially Tobelerone chocolate fans.
Overall the whole newscast is in formal language as it is a radio news station and that is one of the conventions that it must carry out as a norm. However it is not in a serious tone all the time, sometimes it is in a friendly tone.
They promote their website again at the end of the 5 minute newscast and say that their next update is at 2pm.
