Treatment for News Story

Treatment for News Story
Program Title: Flash FM
Story Producer: Mahfuza
Story (background): Teenage boy dies after being held in detention in school
Angle on this story: How young people cope with the death of loved ones
Genre: Local news
Target Audience: teenagers and young adults
Tone: Serious because it is about a teenage boy’s death

News Values: (what news values will the story have? What are the main reasons people should listen to the story?)
Proximity – the closeness and locality of the news. East London, the school is nearby.
People should listen to the story because the story is about a boy and his girlfriend who fall into the target audience category. Teens will like hearing about news from other teens and what else is happening in other people’s lives. Also this news story has reached a variety of people and shocked them, therefore the aftermath of the news about Nasser will be interesting and attention-grabbing.

What form (s) will it take and why?
[  ] Vox Pop
[X ] Interview
[ X] Outside Broadcast
[  ] Interactive audience
[  ] Recorded in studio with sound bytes
[  ] News anchor speaking in studio with reporter
[  ] Other
Outside broadcast and interview of an interview with Nasser’s girlfriend to ask her how she is coping with the loss of her boyfriend.

Who are you going to interview? When/where/why?
Interviewing Nasser’s girlfriend, in school because that’s the easiest place to find her.

Which of the following will be used? How and why?
[ X] Music (What kind?)
[ X ]  Sound (What kind?)
[  ] Silence

For music, a jingle will be used to transfer from the studio to the interview with Nasser’s girlfriend.  The sound that will be used is voices, as we will be talking throughout the whole interview. No sound effects will be used as a convention for hard news / a serious-toned news story is that they don’t normally have any sound effects.

Technical Needs/Requirements:
Unidirectional microphone as the only voices that will need to be picked up is the interviewee and mine, between switching the microphone between us.
